Caen-Carpiquet Airport has belonged to the Caen la mer Urban Community since 2007. As such, it is the supervisory authority: it defines the airport's strategic direction, provides the land and equipment, and ensures its smooth operation, notably through its investments. Since July 1, 2025, the airport's operation has been entrustedto the Alliance consortium for a period of five and a half years.
Caen-Carpiquet Airport: a tool serving attractiveness and public service
Caen-Carpiquet Airport meets a genuine need for users and is an essential tool for the region's attractiveness. This facility is positioned as the leading airport in Normandy and confirms its vital role for the Caen economic area and its importance as a metropolitan asset.
Beyond its use for business and tourist travel, Caen-Carpiquet Airport also provides other public service missions, notably with the reception of aeronautical companies, with the transfer of organ transplants and medical evacuations in connection with the University Hospital, or with recreational aviation.
It is because of its multiple functions and its essential role in the economic development of the territory that Caen la mer continues its investments in compliance: for equipment that is more accessible for users, more adapted to its uses, more integrated into its environment.
The Caen la mer Urban Community

Under the leadership of its President, Nicolas Joyau, it now comprises 48 municipalities, representing more than 270,000 inhabitants. Its main areas of responsibility are economic development, energy, research and higher education, planning, road and transport infrastructure, housing and social welfare, sustainable development (including green spaces, sanitation and waste recovery), tourism, community events (culture and sports), coastal maintenance and the co-production of projects.
